My journey with Japan began in 2004, a trip to meet my wife’s family that inadvertently opened a lifelong chapter of documentary exploration. With family roots in Kagoshima, my lens has been primarily focused on the rugged beauty of Kyushu. From the rhythmic canals of Yanagawa and the volcanic majesty of Sakurajima to the geothermal mist of the Ibusuki beach onsens, I have spent years documenting the island's unique interplay of nature and heritage.
Beyond Kyushu, my work spans the breadth of the archipelago. I find myself continually drawn back to the "still points" of Japanese life: the snow-hushed temples of Kyoto in winter, the ethereal fog banks of Naoshima, and the meticulous geometry of Kenroku-en Gardens in Kanazawa. Whether observing the macaques of Jigokudani Monkey Park in Nagano or the coastal silence of Kamakura, my goal remains the same: to find the universal "decisive moments" within the specific beauty of the Japanese landscape.
